Experimenting with Maple Syrup
Who doesn't love maple coated foods? With the help of two of our good friends we did a little experimenting with maple syrup, almonds and coffee beans.
It wasn't until half way through the process with the almonds that I remebered I should take photos for the blog. Which, means I missed the first few steps. We roasted almonds in the oven. Then we heated some dark syrup to 240 degrees. Then we combined the two in a large bowl.
As the syrup cools it dries up like regular maple candy. After it was mixed long enough we spread it out on a cookie sheet to cool.
Don't those look delicious?!
On the counter that we were working on there was a clear bag of coffee beans. Our friend Becky had the amazing idea. Maple coated coffee beans. We talked about it for a couple minutes then decided there was only one way to find out of it would work or not.
We heated more syrup to 240 degrees and mixed it in a giant bowl with the coffee beans.
After mixing for a little bit my arms got really tired. Jim and I teamed up to get the job done.
These also had to cool on a cookie sheet.
We have a little tweaking to do with both recipes to make them perfect. However, once we get the recipes perfect we hope to start selling them. So, let us know if you would like to get some :)
