Funny Things are Happening Around Here
I love all of our chickens, duck and guinea hens. However, they are not all the smartest birds. Over the last few weeks I've been able to capture the sillyness of our animals.
The reason we got guinea hen in the first place was so they could roam free and eat all the ticks and bugs. Since they sleep up in the trees we figured they would have a better chance of surviving if a Fox or other animal came through our yard.
In this video the "Mama" guinea hen who is about 2ish months older than the rest is walking on the roof of the chicken coop. I had gone out there in an attempt to get them to go back into the coop. Make sure you watch the video to the end. The last guinea hen to try to fly up to the roof walks alone the fence and gets shocked by the electrical fence... pretty funny if you ask me...
Yesterday evening was very eventful for Mr. and Mrs. Quackers. Out of the corner of my eye I thought I saw a white bird fly by the window in the living room. Now, I've seen the ducks fly... but only 20 feet. I had not seen them fly up and over the house. Well I went out to see if it really was one of the ducks. Sure enough, Mrs. Quackers was waddling around the back side of the house. I followed her to make sure she at least got back to the coop. We were on our way out of the house and didn't have time to herd them back into the coop.
Later that night we had to go out there with flashlights to look for them. Jim found them and was able to scoop them right up and put them back into the chicken coop. Phew!
While we were out there we saw that the guinea hens decided they were going to sleep outside... which was fine. Except they were roosting on the same section of fence where the guinea hen in the video was getting shocked. Not so smart on their part. While we were out there one of the guinea hens got shocked and fell off the fence. Jim caught her and tried to put her back but she fell off again. At least she fell into the run and would be safe for the night.
The ducks love it when I wash out there "pond" and put fresh water in it. Here in this video they are fully enjoying their clean water. Of course Redneck has to come over and see what all the comotion is about.
They get so excited they fly out! I haven't been able to figure out why they do this. They will fly out and then run right back to the water. Silly ducks!
Here is another video of the ducks enjoying their water.
A couple weeks ago I was able to take this photo when we were up by the garden. The bumble bee is enjoying the flowers on our mint plants.
If the guinea hen want to sleep outside on fencing. This is a better spot for them to sleep...
Before having chickens I never would have guessed they each had their own personality. Here is a photo of Littleone, being quite curious...
Well... until next time!
